Preston Stanley makes six straight birdies on the back nine of final round to win first-place prize of $31,350 by one stroke
Exciting competition highlighted the three-day 2022 Nevada Open golf tournament hosted by Mesquite Gaming, owner of CasaBlanca Resort and Virgin River Hotel in Mesquite, Nevada. Preston Stanley from Katy, Texas claimedthe first-place prize of $31,350 after finishing 14-under-par and shooting 202 for the tournament. The 54-hole event welcomed 217 players traveling across North America to vie for this year’s prize purse of $150,000.
“My bogie on the 9th hole actually woke me up,” said Stanley. “It brought me a focus that resulted in six straight birdies on the following holes.” He faced fierce competition from second place finisher Van Thomas from Las Vegas, NV.
“Hat’s off to Mesquite Gaming for the outstanding player accommodations they provided which created an atmosphere for terrific tournament play,” Stanley continued. “All we had to concentrate on was playing our best golf on these beautiful courses.”
All golfers played their first two rounds at the award winning and scenic courses, the CasaBlanca Golf Club and the Palms Golf Club. The final round was played at the CasaBlanca Golf Club and featured the top 73 golfers (1 amateurs and 72 professionals) who made the cut after the first two rounds.
Following the tournament, Mesquite Gaming presented a $1,000 donation to the Mesquite Junior Golf Association.
“The flavor of this year’s Nevada Open changed entirely when the leader stumbled a bit at the start of our last day,” said Christian Adderson, tournament director for Mesquite Gaming. “The entire field responded with an even higher level of play down the stretch.
