Local fire department’s win over the Mesquite Police Department at this year’s watermelon eating contest at CasaBlanca’s Rib Fest pays off for popular charity.
Mesquite Gaming, owner of the CasaBlanca Resort and Virgin River Hotel, today presented a $1,000 check to the local Salvation Army as the winning prize from the 6th Annual Rib Fest’s watermelon eating contest between the Mesquite Fire Department and the Mesquite Police Department. As the champions, the firefighters won the right to select a local charity to receive the prize money.
“There are so many worthy charities in our community, but since it’s the holidays, we figured the Salvation Army could really use this generous donation,” said Captain Spencer Lewis of the Mesquite Fire Department.
“Mesquite Gaming is very happy to make this donation to the Salvation Army on behalf of our local fire department,” said Christian Adderson, assistant general manager at Mesquite Gaming. “This spirited competition between our firefighters and police officers is always a highlight of our Rib Fest and the crowd loves to cheer them on as they go at it.”
“Everyone at the Salvation Army appreciates this sizable contribution at the time of the year when we need it the most,” added Bill Ennis, Director of the Salvation Army. “We thank Mesquite Gaming and our firefighters for the good work they do all year around for our community.”CasaBlanca’s Rib Fest is a 3-day family fun event that includes some of the country’s best barbecue vendors in a top-notch cooking competition serving up delicious ribs and meats. In addition, attendees enjoy fun tailgating games, daily eating contests, a live DJ, and delicious dessert treats from Sin City Kettle Corn. The event is free and open to the public.
